Grand Induction & Wild Style Celebration
Five Points Festival is excited to host NHHM’s 40th anniversary Wild Style celebration – the first ever hip-hop motion picture, Sunday, June 11, from 4-6 p.m.
Throughout the day Kevin “Scene” Lewis will be LIVE graffiti painting, followed by an NHHM-hosted live-stream podcast via Rock The Bells. Also, DJ Tony Crush, DJ Grand Wizzard Theodore, and DJ Kevie Kev Rockwell will spin classic hip-hop breaks and early hip-hop from the Wild Style era!!
The celebration will culminate in an awards ceremony inducting Wild Style Director Charlie Ahearn with cast members including Hip-Hop Royalty Grandmaster Caz & The Cold Crush Brothers, Grand Wizzard Theodore & The Fantastic 5, and breakdance icon, Crazy Legs. It will be hosted by NHHM curator Jay Quan, a noted hip-hop historian, author, and lecturer.
Adding to the excitement, NHHM will display a hand-drawn animation slide from the movie’s intro by Zephyr and Revolt donated by Charlie Ahearn, alongside the original amphitheater flyer from 1980, a rare Italian 1984 Wild Style movie poster and vintage articles from the movie’s original premiere.
Collectible Toy Exhibition
Throughout the weekend, the NHHM will exhibit a retrospective of rare and vintage hip-hop toys from 1984 to the present. It also will operate a pop-up retail store offering many of the rare, exclusive, vintage and one-of-a-kind toys and apparel for purchase from its retail arm, The Hip-Hop Shop.
