James Romberger has drawn comics for Marvel’s Epic Illustrated, Image Comics, NBM/Papercutz and DC’s Paradox Press. His DC/Vertigo works include the “Renegade” storyline from 2020 Visions; Hellblazer; the anthology titles Weird War, Gangland and Strange Adventures; and the graphic novels Bronx Kill with Peter Milligan and Aaron and Ahmed with Guggenheim fellow Jay Cantor. Romberger’s ecological comic Post York was published in 2012 by Uncivilized Books; it includes a flexi-disc of a song by his son Crosby and it was nominated for an 2013 Eisner Award for Best Single Issue (or One-Shot). A revised edition of Romberger and Marguerite Van Cook’s critically acclaimed 7 Miles a Second, a graphic novel done in collaboration with the late AIDS activist David Wojnarowicz, was published in in 2013 by Fantagraphics Books. In 2014 Fantagraphics published The Late Child and Other Animals, a graphic memoir written and colored by Van Cook and adapted and drawn by Romberger. Romberger also writes critically for Publisher’s Weekly, The Comics Journal , and The Beat. His fine art pastel drawings of the ravaged landscape of the Lower East Side and its citizens are in many public and private collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Brooklyn Museums in New York City.
